David George Sherman was born in 1947 and graduated from Amherst College in 1969. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1974 and 1982 respectively. He taught anthropology at Southern Illinois University, 1984-1986, Dartmouth College, 1988-1989 and University of California Irvine, 1989-1990.
